The art of finding focus
Dear Diary, most of us entered the field of youtube because of our favourite creators. But what I’ve come to realize is the trap of getting stuck inside this bubble. You see all these product reviews, tutorials and how to guides as your biggest inspirations. The imitation game in full effect.
But what happens is that we’ve created a youtube that feels generic, all uninspiring and bland. Trough stealing as creators, we so beautifly craft the same gray matter everyone else is pumping into our online landscape. After all, it’s easier to create when you have the template of success in front of your screens.
Stepping out of the boundaries of what I thought possible. Focus with UA-cam, focus with what work to create. What to others might have looked like chaos, is actually the feeling of pieces falling together. To keep me accountable and resist the temptations of new projects, I’ve been playing with this countdown widget on my phone. It’s a hard reality but it’s always staring right back at me when I get distracted…
Now it might sound fluffy but that to me is what sounds like focus. As you navigate your own UA-cam path, I implore you to delve deep within and uncover that one thing that sets your heart ablaze. Focus is not about limiting yourself; it's about channeling your energy into what truly moves you. It's about crafting videos that become a reflection of your core principles, passions, and interests. Let your content be a testament to the possibilities that lie within you.

The art of slowing down.

This is not a UA-cam video, at least not what we're used to anymore. We live in a world that's constantly bombarding us with information. We're always connected, always stimulated, always on the go. But sometimes it's important to take a step back. Can just be to let our minds wander, to embrace the stillness. So that's what we're doing here today. Nothing. There is this growing movement of cre...

The golden rules of YouTube succes ft. Ignace Aleya

I'm sitting down with VFX artist and UA-camr Ignace Aleya and his partner Arnaud Melis, to dissect his success on youtube and ask a few hard questions: Should you go niche or broad as a new UA-camr? How do you find focus with your channel? And what should you do to get viewers to click and watch on your videos in the first place? Whether you are a beginner or already on your way, this is a good...

    I'm gonna be honest here, the reason this video didn't blow up as other comments say it should have is because of all the film style interludes. It's not that you don't make good shots, or that your grading doesn't look cool etc. It's just that people are too on the run, and they don't really want so much breaks during educational videos. I understand the purpose might be to have storytelling to make it more engaging, but it's just not working that way. Honestly I just rather have the "meat" of the content, a 5 minute video of the actual lesson. Sure you can have cuts to the coffee and such but I think they need to be shorter and with a different pace. The actual things you say about Matt are great, and you present them in a great way.

    Tom, you have the knowledge but you miss the main ingredient: Confidence. Whatever the shot is, without the confidence, it's just empty. As if no focal point. No soul. No story. The shot is about you, but you're just a passenger. Confidence. You'll light up your shot, giving vibe and energy. And it will transmit to the viewers. Sometimes it is more important than the idea or story.

    What do you mean with “re-engagement” in your template? Can you explain?

    • @tomsodyssey
      @tomsodyssey 9 місяців тому

      Hey there! Sure :) Re-engaging the audience is injecting a fresh talking point or introducing new elements, like a character, location,… into the video. This keeps viewers engaged (by preventing the video to become too boring) and hopefully getting them some renewed interest as they watch. It's a tool to maintain more attention throughout the video. :) it’s that moment in a video you feel caught off guard because the creator did something you didn’t expect for example! Does that make a bit more sense?

    People overcomplicate story so much. Casey's example of a story is literally just 1) what he did before Steve-O's podcast, 2) Steve-O's podcast, 3) what he did after Steve-O's podcast.

      @MrWokyman 3 місяці тому

      I saw a great example of this when someone interviewed him. They asked multiple times why he dropped in a bit of music at a particular point, they were seemingly fixated on 'understanding' this, like there was a magic formula to it. Something like that comes down to feel, and intuition. Yes, you could delve into the technicalities of it, but Casey and many others don't work like that.

    • @melie3054
      @melie3054 2 місяці тому

      @@MrWokymanlol I know exactly which interview you’re taking about. That stood out to me too how they were pushing so much into that when reviewing just the intro part of his video so far. But I thought also that the interviewer was just really overly passionate and fangirl-y. I noticed he was like that in another interview of a creator too.
